Official Tomba API client for Lua

See what a developer needs to connect Tomba to software written in Lua.

Written by Tomba.io Team

Use this client when a developer wants to connect Tomba to software written in Lua. A client is a ready-made code package that links your software to Tomba, so they don't have to build that link from scratch.

You don't need it to find or verify emails yourself. Search, Finder and Verify do that in your browser.

Before you start

Your developer needs two things:

  • Your API key and secret, the two values that tell Tomba the software is yours. See How to find my API key?.

  • Lua 5.1, 5.2 or 5.3, plus LuaRocks and a C++ compiler.

⚠️ Important: Keep your key and secret private. If they're shared by mistake, open API Keys and use Reset Key. The old key stops working right away. To replace the secret as well, see How to find my API key?.

Get the Lua client

Step 1. Open Libraries, under API > Libraries.

Step 2. Find the Lua card. You can type Lua in Search libraries… to jump to it. The book icon on the card opens the developer guide.

The Libraries page with an arrow on the Search libraries box above the language cards

Step 3. Send your developer these two install lines, in this order: luarocks install xml CFLAGS="-O2 -fPIC -std=gnu++14", then luarocks install tomba.

What it can do

Your developer can use these Tomba tools from your software:

  • Find emails: Domain Search, Email Finder, Author Finder and LinkedIn Finder

  • Check emails: Email Verifier

  • Add details: enrichment, which fills in details about a person or a company

  • Find phones: Phone Finder and Phone Validator

  • Research companies: Similar Companies, Technology and Reveal

  • Manage contacts: your Leads and lead lists

💳 Credits: The client uses your plan's credits. Each lookup costs the same as in the app.

For developers: see the Lua client docs.

Common questions

Can we use it on the Free plan?

Yes. The Free plan has 25 search credits and 0 verification credits, so you can try finding emails but not verifying them.

Why did it stop working?

The API key may have expired. Every key lasts 365 days at most, and Tomba emails the account owner 30 days, 7 days and 1 day before it ends. Open API Keys, use Reset & renew on the key, and give the new key to your developer.

How many lookups can it run?

Most plans set a limit per second, per minute and per day. See How many searches can I run per second, minute and day?.
